Dave Shelton was born and raised in Leicester (more or less) then moved to Cambridge to study Illustration, and remained there for many years. In 2007 he stumbled into working on the DFC comic, for which he created, wrote and drew the comic strip Good Dog, Bad Dog. This in turn led to the creation of his debut children’s novel A Boy and a Bear in a Boat (edited and published by DFC mastermind, David Fickling), which won the Branford Boase Award and was shortlisted for both the Costa prize and the Carnegie medal.

Thirteen Chairs, his second prose novel for children, was released in 2014, and was followed by a second Good Dog, Bad Dog collection, Double Identity, two Emily Lime, Librarian Detective mysteries The Book Case and The Pencil Case, and Monster in the Woods

Dave lives in Norfolk.
